The club was started by a group of neighbours to improve the health and well-being of local residents.
At the official Opening Ceremony, attended by the Leader of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and other dignatories, Leftley Sports Club Chair Muhammed Ali commented, “Myself and General Secretary Anwar Hussain came up with the idea of a sports club to help engage our community better and to try to help get people active in sports. What was a spark of an idea in our back garden is now flourishing and running as a successful community sports club.“
Anwar Hussain, further added:
“I was cutting the grass and hedges in my garden, and I couldn’t find the motivation to do it on my own so I asked some of my friends round to help me and together we did it all in two hours. This then made me think why don’t we as a group, do physical activities and set up a sports club – so we did”
